WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AIDER (MHFA)?

Generally, the purpose of a MHFA is to be a point of contact for employees if they are experiencing emotional distress or suffering in silence with mental health problems, such as stress, anxiety or depression, for example. Mental Health First Aiders are trained to listen. They also have knowledge of local support and where to sign post.

WHO SHOULD DO MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?

This is for everyone. Personally and professionally.
Every workplace needs a mental health first aider, and depending on the size of your company, even one per office or team. ... As long as every employee in your organisation has access to someone they can go to for support; there really is no limit on how many people you train in mental health first aid.

WHAT IS WORKPLACEWELLBEING?

Wellness covers physical and mental fitness. Over the past 30 or so years, it has grown as a concept in the workplace, focusing on helping employees influence their own health, quality of life, mental wellbeing and, consequently, their performance at work.
As such, employee wellness looks not just at reducing absence from work through illness, but also how to proactively encourage and promote healthier lifestyles and attitudes.
